We aim to address the consequences of the disability as well as maximising quality of life, functional potential and independence through an individual care plan, working with the client and their families.
We assist in helping a client to adjust to the more permanent effects of their spinal cord injury and develop new skills, and where possible optimise their independence and quality of life within those limitations. Where possible, we assist clients to ultilise basic skills learned in rehab and increasing their strength, flexibility and endurance to increase function. We use the latest FES and Saebo technology when required.
The care process will be specific to the individual and will depend their symptoms and severity. People with spinal cord injury have differing individual needs. This is a life-changing event affecting the family and social structure of the patient.
Our person-centred approach ensures all care programmes are specific to individual lifestyles and requirements and are seen in the context of the person as a whole, incorporating the family dynamics and change in socials settings.
Interdisciplinary meetings evaluate a client’s progress, arrest any deterioration and adapt care accordingly. We provide an on-going assessment of a client’s progress in their abilities and level of independence in daily activities (i.e. dressing, walking etc).
Our patients will be taken care by a multi-disciplinary team that will help them reach their full potential and make the best out of their stay at the Kings Lodge. Each patient is unique, and so every team is different, depending on their needs. The core team will be comprised of:
